How should I start this? Do I need a hook? Will anyone read this? I don’t know but for anybody reading this… Hello! Welcome to my blog. I have decided that it would be rather diverting to start a blog to document the adventures of the next few years. At least, I hope I’ll be documenting adventures and not great tragedies or disappointments. I was going to write something like “Allow me to introduce myself” but that sounds a bit cheesy so I am just going to tell you who I am. My name is Georgia Rudolph and I am currently a senior in high school. I love tea, reading, baking, the outdoors, and Jesus.
Why The Pale Parabola of Joy? I am an avid fan of P.G Wodehouse. I love his wit, ridiculous metaphors, and dry humor. One of my favorite Wodehouse novels is Leave it to Psmith where Psmith (pronounced with a silent ‘P’ like pshrimp) pretends to be a poet. The only line of the pretentious poet’s poetry Psmith knows is “Across the Pale Parabola of Joy” and nobody has any idea what it means. So why am I naming my blog after a nonsensical metaphor? Well… because I think it’s funny. However, I also find it important to portray pretentious poets as silly because it helps me to not be pretentious. That’s part of the reason why I love Wodehouse. His characters who take themselves too seriously seem ridiculous in the eyes of the reader. So, in an effort to not be a melodramatic poet, I christen this blog The Pale Parabola of Joy.
